September 2010

The Western Cape Chapter chapter has 130 members, and has held two successful seminars in the last few months. There was a Superior Courts Workshop in June, and in August Paul Benjamin presented on "The challenges of new working arrangements for labour law and practice" held at the University of Cape Town.

June 2010

The Western Cape Chapter Membership to date stands at 103 and is growing, as many are still requesting invoices.

An event co-hosted by the Institute of Development and Labour Law (UCT) and SASLAW took place on 15 March 2010.  The topic 'OUTSOURCING REINED IN: A DEBATE ON THE SAA OUTSOURCING DECISION' a panel discussion on the recent Labour Appeal Court decision on outsourcing in Aviation Union SA obo Barnes & others v SAA Airways & others (2009) 30 ILJ 2849 (LAC).  The panellists were Craig Bosch, Anton Steenkamp, and Judge Dennis Davis.

A Seminar discussing problems commonly faced by employers wanting to recover money from their employees or former employees took place on 22 April 2010. The Presenters were: Michael Bagraim (Attorney, Bagraims Attorneys) and Hein Liebenberg (Human Resources Consultant).

The AGM of the Western Cape Chapter will took on Tuesday, 25 May 2010 at Edward Nathan Sonnenberg's offices at 17h00.  The AGM was followed by a Presentation by Anton Steenkamp, Director of Bowman Gilfillan Attorneys and Labour Law Court Judge (as of Mid-July 2010) on "The Trajectory of South African Labour Law: A Perspective on the Labour Court and Key Issues.
