About SASLAW

The South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) was established in June 1997 with the purpose of bringing together a wide range of people active in labour law and labour relations in South Africa, and who have an interest in the following:

  • advancing and promoting labour law as a legal and academic discipline
  • advancing and promoting the practice of labour law
  • promoting the exchange of ideas and information concerning labour law
  • promoting collaboration between lawyers and other experts within the field of labour law
  • advancing knowledge about and training in labour law
  • representing and articulating the interests of the labour law community
  • promoting and facilitating a representative labour law profession
  • promoting ethical standards and integrity in the practice of labour law
  • promoting interaction between people engaged in the fields of labour law and dispute resolution
  • SASLAW is a Non-profit Organisation (Registration Number: 047-618-NPO) and currently has more than 650 paid up members and is growing steadily.
  • There are SASLAW chapters in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape and the Western Cape.

Amongst the benefits which SASLAW offers its members are

  • regular seminars by leading specialists in the field,
  • contact with colleagues,
  • the opportunity to debate current issues, and
  • newsletters containing reference to developments in the field of labour law.

International Society for Labour and Social Security Law World Congress

SASLAW is pleased to advise that at a meeting of the international executive committee of the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law in Seville, Spain today, SASLAW won the rights to host the World Congress in Cape Town in 2015.

Brazil was knocked out in the first round of the voting, and South Africa then beat Canada (Toronto) by 24 votes to 16.
